Booking Agreement

The main reason for the booking agreement is to try to ensure that the event goes as well as possible for you by telling you what I need in order to do a good show. If there's anything you are not happy about then please contact me

Professor Paradox Booking Agreement

 1) GENERAL. I’ll need to be able to park close to the performing area, and will need somewhere suitable to get changed (not the toilets!). I may need assistance with moving props.

 2) STEWARDING. Occasionally there are problems during a show; a child gets stung by a wasp, frightened by a dog etc. children start throwing stones at the performer, drunken adults disrupt the show - it’s all happened! You must ensure that there are a minimum of two responsible adults on hand at all times, who can deal with any eventuality that may occur. Stewarding is the responsibility of the venue. PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WORK WITH CHILDREN UNLESS THERE ARE OTHER ADULTS PRESENT.

 3) DISTRACTIONS. I don’t use amplification and my shows involve audience participation and a degree of subtlety. I can’t work close to bouncy castles, barrel organs, discos, or other noise source. Occasionally I get asked to entertain children while adults in the same room have a chat. It simply doesn’t work. Adults are more than welcome, but if they want to socialize they must leave the room. I reserve the right to cut short any performance that in my view is being disrupted by extraneous noise, without a reduction in fee.

 4) THE GREAT OUTDOORS. If the weather is unsuitable for an outdoor show, an indoor alternative must be provided.

 5) CANCELLATIONS. . Once a booking is confirmed I decline other offers of work for that date. In the event of cancellation of a show, 75% of the fee is payable, unless I have arrived on site in which case the full fee is payable.  If I am able to obtain substitute work for the same date, I will return the fee, or part if I have to work for a lower fee.

6) DELAYS. Things don’t always go to plan (and weddings unfailingly run late), but my time is valuable too. I allow up to 15 minutes for a delay to the start of a show, after which a waiting time of £5 per 15 minutes or part thereof is added to the fee. If I have other commitments, I may, at my discretion, shorten a show that has been delayed, without reducing the fee. In the unlikely event of me not being ready on time, the same reductions in my fee would be made.

7) INDOOR VENUES. No smoking during the performance!

 8) PAYMENT. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due immediately following the performance. Cheques are accepted from local authorities etc payable to M. Rawlinson. Personal cheques will only be accepted 30 days in advance of the event, otherwise payment must be in cash.

 9) THEATRES. Basic sound and lighting facilities and a technical operator must be provided by the venue. The technician must he available for get-in and technical run through, 90 minutes before the start.

 10) EMPLOYMENT. For employment legislation purposes, all performances are “Acts as Known”, and cannot be booked as an employee of the venue.

 11) EXTRAS. I’m happy to draw raffles, present prizes etc. But do ask before the day.

 12) LIABILITIES. I am not liable for losses caused by a failure to perform due to circumstances beyond my control.

 13) VIDEOS. I don’t mind if short sections of a show are recorded for personal use, but if you want to record long sections, or use recordings for any other purpose, please discuss it with me before the event.

 14) RISK ASSESSMENT. I confirm that a full risk assessment has been carried out, and there are no significant hazards to the audience or passing members of the public, provided that the stewards ensure that children only enter the performing area when invited do so. Risk assessment is kept under constant review.

 15) CONFIRMATION. Please sign both copies of this agreement and return one to me within 14 days. The booking is not confirmed until I receive a signed agreement: (I don’t hold unconfirmed dates indefinitely!

 16) SCHEDULE. All times are flexible within reasonable limits.

 16) FEE.
